Longarone, 8 November 2018 - The ceremony bestowing the honorary title of Knight of the Order of Merit for Labour on the Cavalieri del Lavoro appointed on the 2nd of June last, was held this morning at Rome’s Quirinal Palace.
Among them stood Ennio De Rigo, President of the De Rigo Group, who received this prestigious title in what is a memorable year for the well-known eyewear company from Longarone, and more precisely, in the year of its fortieth anniversary.
The title, bestowed by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, together with the Minister of Economic Development, Labour and Social Policies, Luigi Di Maio, and with the President of the National Federation of the Cavalieri del Lavoro, Antonio D'Amato, seals the success of an enlightened and versatile entrepreneur whose companies operating in a variety of sectors have greatly contributed to creating employment and promoting their area of origin. Ennio De Rigo's commitment extends to the social sphere with initiatives supporting the local community, such as the recent establishment of the Foundation of the same name, and supporting young people in particular.
“I am honoured to receive this prestigious recognition of my hard work and commitment,” says Ennio De Rigo. “My thanks go to my family and my collaborators, because without their support I would not have been able to achieve the important results obtained in 40 years of business. I dedicate this award to them and to my land, which has always given me so much and which, sadly, is going through a very hard time”.
Shy and retiring by nature, Ennio De Rigo is a multi-faceted, enlightened businessman with talent and intuition who has worked in a great variety of different sectors of business over the years, from construction in Cortina D’Ampezzo to refrigeration and eyewear.
In 1978, he and his brother Walter founded a little workshop in the Belluno area making sunglasses and prescription glasses, which has grown over four decades to become the well-known brand De Rigo. In the eighties, he purchased the historic Lozza eyewear company and launched the Police and Sting brands, inaugurating a new production plant in Longarone in the early nineties, which has since become the official headquarters of the company, one of the most important and solid enterprises in the Veneto region.
Ennio De Rigo is still Chairman of the Group, flanked by his wife, Emiliana. A companion in life and work, Emiliana was the one who first made the dream come true in a little barn in the mountains, in Pozzale di Cadore, founding what was to become a world leader in eyewear.
A world leader in the production and distribution of top quality eyewear and one of the world’s biggest eyewear retailers, today the De Rigo Group serves more than 80 countries with 16 sales offices, 4 retail divisions and 3,000 employees, with a consolidated turnover of 429.5 million Euro in 2017.
