De Rigo, world leader in the design, production and distribution of top quality prescription eyewear frames and sunglasses has joined forces with the Istituto Europeo di Design, leading international institute with an all-Italian origin in the field of design, fashion, the visual arts and communication, relying on its students to create the logo for the company’s 40th anniversary in 2018.
The competition involved the students in the second year of the Graphic Design course on the Venice campus of IED, who were asked to reinterpret the company logo with a graphic representation that would be both a tribute to the history of De Rigo but also, at the same time, a symbol of modernity with an eye on the future.
The award ceremony for the winning logo was held on 6 December in the splendid Palazzo Franchetti building, the headquarters of IED Venice. The winners of the competition were two young students, Alice Ferrazzo and Sara Mattiuzzi, whose entry was a clean, effective attempt to recreate the action performed when putting on a pair of spectacles. They presented a drawing which shows the outline of a face wearing spectacles that become the two figures of the anniversary year, alongside the De Rigo institutional logo.
“Rather than commissioning an advertising agency, we decided to place our bets on the creativity of the young students of the IED. Choosing the winning logo was not an easy task as we received many entries, all of a very high quality” commented Barbara De Rigo, Marketing Director of the company’s House Brands who presented the two winning designers with their awards. “I would like to congratulate all the students for the high level of the works submitted, Professor Davide Aquini who guided them during this initiative and Igor Efrem Zantim, the Director of IED Venice for his willingness to participate”.
This project staged in collaboration with the IED is only one of the many activities planned for the anniversary that will be officially presented during Mido 2018, at the end of February. It is also a clear sign of the desire of De Rigo to further strengthen the connection between the company and schools. A connection that will become even stronger next year, forging new partnerships and organising workshops, events and debates in various schools of different levels and kinds in the Veneto area, with a view to publicising the value that lies behind a manufacturing industry like De Rigo, and offering different professional opportunities for young students.
