Longarone, 28 November 2018 - Bridging the gap between school and work, between “knowing” and “doing”, is a very topical issue that sees the involvement of large companies, institutions and the educational system in general.
The world eyewear leader De Rigo has always promoted initiatives aimed at young people in its native area of Belluno with the intent of encouraging and supporting them in fulfilling their dreams.
The Group has undertaken many concrete activities to support young talent. Particularly worthy of note among the most recent are the scholarships granted to employees’ children, the initiatives of the newly established Fondazione De Rigo HEART and, last but not least, the new #DeRigoLab: a project developed to inform students on the company’s various professional roles and encourage a fruitful integration between the theory learnt at school and the practical skills required in the workplace.
The programme is split into two phases. The first involves a series of meetings at the institutes involved, with in-class training sessions held by the De Rigo managers who oversee the entire business chain, from conception of a new pair of glasses through to financial control. The purpose of these meetings is to grant young people a comprehensive overview of the company and an understanding of the harmony and sense of teamwork that should coexist between its various professionals.
The second part of the programme involves a tour of the company’s departments, allowing the students to witness the entire production cycle.
As Barbara De Rigo, House Brands Marketing and Corporate Communication Director, explained:
“We have selected four institutes for the first edition of #DeRigoLab: the ITE “P.F. Calvi”, the IIS “T. Catullo” and the IIS “Segato-Brustolon” of Belluno, and the IPSSS “Ottico” of Pieve di Cadore. These institutes, each with a different vocational background, were selected to encourage students to think about the company as a whole and about the importance of ensuring a synergistic approach between each department. The real crux of the matter is the transferral of knowledge from the company’s veterans to the young people who are just entering the labour market. Often, these young people are unable to see the bigger picture and understand what it really means to work for a group such as our”.
#DeRigoLab addresses students in the last two years of high school, i.e. the ones closest to joining the labour market, who will be offered a job placement in De Rigo. The most highly motivated and deserving students will also be offered an internship in the company, as a natural first step towards a more stable collaboration with the group.
The #DeRigoLab project introduces a new approach to bridging the gap between school and the work world (the same that is adopted for school meetings). The aim is to create a debate on and provide insights into specific aspects concerning the construction of a pair of glasses: design, prototyping, industrialization, production, sales, marketing, communication, finance and financial control.
